The Location
Plymouth, with a population of 250,000, is a major naval center and fishing port with a very distinguished history. It was Sir Francis Drake’s homeport and it was from Plymouth that the Pilgrims set sail for America in 1620. The Barbican, the old center of Plymouth, has many fine historic buildings, including some dating back to Elizabethan times. Present day Plymouth is a modern city with an attractive downtown area that is closed to vehicle traffic. The city has a very fine seafront with miles of unspoiled coastline. Public transportation links between Plymouth and the rest of Britain and the continent of Europe are excellent.

The University College
University College Plymouth St. Mark and St. John - widely known as MARJON - is situated on a picturesque 50-acre site on the edge of Plymouth. Its student population (4,000) is similar to that of Commonwealth University. The international character of Marjon is one of its most attractive features and a recent count showed that there were students from 40 different countries. The college offers degrees in the social sciences art and humanities, sport and technology, business, criminology and forensic sciences, education, health and wellbeing, and, in addition, it is particularly renowned for the strength of its education program.

Academics
The course offerings at MARJON are particularly suited to students pursuing degrees in the humanities, social sciences, and education. Popular degree offerings include geography, history, human communication studies, leisure and tourism, management, sociology, media studies, and sports and recreation. The course offerings might change depending on the semester. The staff of the Center for Global Engagement will be happy to assist you in identifying appropriate courses.

Housing
Standard rooms are priced at £113 per week, while some smaller rooms are available at £109 per week. Within some dorms, there are purpose-built en suite rooms for students with impaired mobility. These are priced at £132 per week.
Rates include heating, lighting, WiFi access, computer support and personal contents insurance. A meal plan costing £820 Dining-In-Scheme card will be charged if applicable
Air Travel – students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements. Please see the international office for assistance. See travel assistance guidelines for details.

Tuition - Commonwealth University students continue to pay Commonwealth University tuition and fees while attending MARJON. Keep in mind that all financial aid can apply toward your study in England since you are participating in a Commonwealth University sponsored program. Students do not pay any tuition or fees in England. Membership of the Sports Centre is free to students staying less than a full academic year. However, it will be necessary to pay for certain activities including the fitness suite induction if you wish to utilize those services.

Academic Calendar
The academic year at MARJON is split into two semesters. The first semester (Autumn/Fall) runs from early September until mid-January with the exams taking place in the final week of the semester. Commonwealth University students can depart MARJON at the Christmas break. However, all course material and extra work must be completed before your departure, and any examinations required must be taken at Commonwealth University on the same date and time as the examination is held at MARJON.

The second semester (Spring /Summer) runs from mid-January until the end of May each year. Examinations are held in the last week of the second semester, and Commonwealth University students will take these at MARJON before they depart the college.
Health Insurance
All students are required to maintain a health insurance policy that will provide coverage while abroad and for the entire duration of this period. Information on international health insurance providers can be obtained from the Center for Global Engagement. You may find that your present health insurance policy includes overseas coverage. It is important, however, that your carrier provide written verification of such coverage.

So, how do I get started?
Simply come by the Center for Global Engagement to pick up an application form. Remember! Applications are due March 1 for the fall term and October 1 for the spring term.
