The Location
Bilkent University is located in the capital city of Ankara. Rising dramatically on a steep incline from the banks of the Enguri Su, Turkey's capital and second most populous city, is a modern European metropolis speckled with reminders of its varied history. Old castles and ruins from Hittite, Phrygian, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman civilizations dot the landscape. The modern city includes government and state houses, major universities, military bases, embassies, bustling nightlife and the oldest park in the city, Genclik Park.
The University
Bilkent University was founded in 1984 as Turkey's first private, non-profit institution of higher education. Recognized and ranked worldwide as the premier institution of higher education in Turkey, Bilkent has a lively campus atmosphere with plenty of cultural and social events taking place throughout the year. The 1200-acre university campus is located 12 kilometers from the city center. Its convenient location offers easy access to the city's parks, shopping areas, cultural activities, museums, and entertainment venues.
Academics
The use of English as a medium of instruction contributes a great deal towards the University's truly international perspective. Bilkent University's international community of scholars and students is an essential component of academic programs, research activities, and social life. Various courses are offered in Economics, social sciences, business, engineering, humanities, art, education, and applied technology and management.
Housing
Special and standard dormitories, all located on Main and East Campuses, offer single, double, triple, quadruple and suite accommodation alternatives for students, at varying rates.
All rooms are furnished with single or bunk beds, desks, desk chairs, bookcases or shelves, wardrobes, wastebaskets, mini refrigerators, direct-dial phones (for on-campus, and incoming local & international calls) and TV connection. All dorms have common areas such as self-cooking kitchens/kitchenettes, TV/social lounges, study lounges, self-service laundry, ironing rooms and game and visitors' areas or rooms. Facility and various lunching & dining places are also available for the convenience of students.
