Founded in 1995 by His Majesty King Hassan II and Crown Prince Abdallah bin Abdel-Aziz of Saudi Arabia, Al Akhawayn University adapted an American liberal arts educational model on an architecturally stunning modern campus amidst the beauty of Morocco's Middle Atlas Mountains.


Al Akhawayn’s unique liberal arts approach is coordinated through three interdependent schools linked by the University Common Core and driven by the mission of the University. All courses except foreign languages are taught in English. The main academic divisions are

The City of Ifrane, Morocco

Ifrane is called the "Garden City" for its natural beauty or the "Imperial City" in that it houses a palace and benefits from royal patronage. Ifrane (pop. 40,000) is also a ski resort in the Middle Atlas region of Morocco. It is considered one of the most beautiful places in Morocco very much in the European style, as if it were an Alpine village. Middle Atlas Mountains consist mostly of a series of limestone plateaus and there are an abundance of springs and lakes Not far from Ifrane; also in the Middle Atlas is Cèdre Gouraud Forest. With 44 inches average annual precipitation (Bloomsburg 42 inches) and gentle summer climate, Ifrane enjoys the reputation of being one of the best places to live in Morocco.
