CIEE Arts and Sciences Program in Uppsala, Sweden

Once the pagan center of Sweden, Uppsala now looks to an impressive Gothic cathedral as its most iconic structure. The history behind this transformation is incentive enough to study here. Add the fact that Uppsala University is one of the world’s most prestigious universities, with a wide range of courses in business, sciences, information tech, social sciences, and humanities, and you’ll be packing your bags for an amazing international experience.

Study abroad in Uppsala and you'll:

  • Learn with Swedish students in the hallowed halls Uppsala University, founded in 1477, and recognized around the world.
  • Explore the land of the Vikings, who thrived here more than 1,000 years ago.
  • Experience campus life Swedish-style, with concerts, sports events, and gasques –popular three-course dinner parties – as a member of a Student Nations social club.

Established in 2009, this program allows students to share coursework and friendship with Swedish students at one of Europe’s top universities. Students pursue their academic interests in business, natural sciences, information technology, social sciences, and more, while learning about contemporary Sweden through optional Swedish language courses and the CIEE intercultural coaching program. Some university courses also allow students to pursue field research and community service.

The academic semester at Uppsala University is divided into four periods of roughly five weeks each. Students take one and or two courses each quarter. Courses are taught by Uppsala University faculty, except for CIEE Intercultural Communication and Leadership, and CIEE Communicative Swedish Language, which are taught by experienced CIEE staff members.
